Sneak Peek – My First Upholstery Project

Oh my! I have to write! I can feel it like it’s coming out of me! It’s been a while! It was quite hectic the past couple of weeks and it will be our son Ryan’s first birthday this weekend! Actually, I should be planning his birthday.. lol.. I am, I am! You’ll see.. 🙂

Hello! I’m back with some new projects and one of them is a small bench.. My very first upholstery project! I think it was a piano stool/bench.  The size is just perfect for our home. It’s a single-seater bench.  It’s in our hallway entrance as requested by my hubby so we can sit on something as we put our shoes on. I think it’s great!

I only got this for $7.99!!

Boy oh boy.. it’s not as easy as I thought (especially when there’s a screaming baby in the background). Last month, I borrowed the book SPRUCE: A Step-by-Step Guide to Upholstery and Design from the library and in there she wrote that it is always best to strip it off all the way and start clean. So, that’s what I did!  I discovered that it’s been re-upholstered already but the previous owner just stapled a new fabric onto the seat. It’s a painful yet fun discovery!

Tada! Layers and layers of upholstery! And look, theres hay?! Do you know why?.. Nevermind the kids shoes underneath .. lol

The back full of nails.. there probably was no staple guns at the time.. I wonder how old this chair is..

And of course.. my cute lil helper 🙂

The Plan..

I already bought an upholstery fabric at Fabricana! Ooh.. love this place! They have a huge selection of fabric for your home.  Classic, modern, trendy designs all over! I can stay there all day drooling and dreaming of a next project.

I will also be painting it with Annie Sloan’s Decorative Paint Chalk Paint in Paris Grey with Dark Wax.  I think it’s going to be great!

And this is the Fabric/ Canvas/ Burlap I chose.. Whatchathink?

Should I do some hand painting or stencilling on the pillars?  I’m still debating.. 🙂 Since the fabric I chose is already quite busy.. I may just leave it as is.. or a simple Fleur-de-lis will do.. What do you think?

Have you done some upholstery before? How was your experience? Tips and advice for a newbie like me are always welcome! Please please .. I want to learn from you! 🙂

So excited to finish this!! Hopefully soon! 🙂

With Love,

I was able to start the upholstery!! Here’s a teaser.. 🙂 Looking forward to painting it now!!
