I’ve mentioned on the blog before that a year ago, we moved to The Heights. This Christmas season, this area in North Burnaby looks quite busy and festive. If you’ve driven along Hastings in the Burnaby Heights area, you’ll see quite a lot of the merchants and restaurants and their holiday window paintings. What caught my eye the most are the happy, colourful window paintings to greet you this season. This one is at Fortuna Bakery . Pardon the poorly captured photo with my iphone. But these Read more […]
It is quite astonishing how we meet people and the people we meet. Let me tell you a story.. As you may know, I am in journey to discovering myself and one of the ways I explore is through my love of the arts and serendipitously, I met Yunuen.. I always believe that we meet who we meet for a reason, be it yesterday, today or tomorrow.. It shall serve a purpose. Thanks to social media! Connecting is not as difficult if you’ll let it. I joined a neighbourhood FB group where I saw Yunuen’s Read more […]
This is a post for the Re-discovering Hastings Street series. I enjoy walking a lot in our neighbourhood, and now with the blog, I enjoy it even more as I get to know the community, their wonderful stories, how they started, their vision and the realization of their dreams. As I write this, I reminisce the atmosphere and the conversations. Oh, what fun and an inspiration it is to know Oui Paris Café and the people behind it. Theresa and Laura, you two are very wonderful women.. Thank you Read more […]
My blog series, Rediscovering Hastings Street, has brought me to this beautiful salon within our community. I am so grateful for the opportunity to know local businesses within our neighbourhood. What a lovely journey it has been for the last month and a half and I think I’ve only tasted the icing on the cake and there’s still so much more to discover. Wherever you are, regardless how much time you have.. I encourage you to discover, explore and just be curious and I guarantee you that there Read more […]
Let me start this blog by saying, I LOVE this blog series. I think, that’s even an understatement. I am so lucky to be in such vibrant community with merchants so talented and creative. I am so privileged to get to know them in person through my blog. I am happy that I decided to do this. What I am experiencing and learning is just invaluable.
This is a post for the series, Rediscovering Hastings Street – The Heights in Burnaby. We moved to The Heights last year and I walk on this street almost everyday as I take Rianne to the library, buy my groceries or just go for a quick 2 hour break alone for myself. I love this neighborhood. It has a variety of shops that will keep you entertained and the community feel that welcomes you. One of the shops on this street I’ve been wanting to see is Chickadee Boutique. It’s one of the retail Read more […]
We moved to this neighbourhood almost 7 months ago and it’s only now that I’ve heard of the Hats Off Day. They’ve been celebrating it for decades and this year marks their 30th year! I was so excited when I found about this. I saw the Hats Off Day posters on every store I walked by. So I planned to go with the whole family. The night before, I was sewing a top I wanted to wear (will post this too, coming soon!) and finished it at almost 5:00 am! Yikes! Rianne woke up at 8:30, ready and excited! Read more […]
I’ve been dying to do this for the longest time! Since we moved in the Burnaby Heights area. Every time I walk the street, I am mesmerized by the shops I see. I walk almost everyday, doing my grocery, or taking Rianne to the library. But all I do is look at their windows and wonder. This time, it’ll be different! I am taking that leap, a new journey and I hope that you’ll be with me! 🙂 Hastings Street is quite a long stretch so I am dividing the series into 2 parts. The Heights in North Read more […]
